While I suppose that these sort of exercises can be fun, in the case of the Coens, it kind of misses the point. OK, "Miller's Crossing" had some Dashiell Hammett influence, and for "O Brother", it helps to know something about "The Odyssey", and maybe "Barton Fink" is sort of like Clifford Odets—-but I cannot stress…
