Can’t wait to read all the comments pending approval.

BTW, kudos to the recent tepee job. Classic TF.

Tomatoface at his best was when people knew they were being trolled, yet still couldn’t resist arguing. There were, I think, some real deranged people on Gawker. Certain threads, it seemed like some were losing their actual shit over TF (who I don’t think was deranged.)

I have to admit that I was 20% meaner Godzooks for all of 1 comment, then got torched for my poor math skills. I had to quickly get 5% meaner so I could be back to even. It’s still not quite like the mean old Gawker days though.

Correct. In the beginning, I was just plain old Godzooks. Then Mr. Nick Denton said he wanted a 20% nicer Gawker, and I complied. When Gawker went the way of the dodo, I was free to be myself again, which is 25% meaner than I used to be, but the same amount mean as I had been.

I moved to a Muslim majority country about a year ago and people here don’t even get the burqa or Niqab. It’s not found anywhere in Muslim scripture that women should cover their face. I’d say less then 1% of women here wear the Niqab, haven’t seen anyone wearing a burqa yet. People at my work refer to them as ninjas.

Exactly. The Quran says all Muslims should dress modestly, which is fine. It says nothing about a burqa. Men decided women should wear a burqa. It’s not religion. It’s power. Much of what is considered Islam has been tacked on over the centuries, which I hasten to add is true of Christianity as well. I lived in Saudi

I for one am happy to see you trolling and well. There’s a certain comfort and je ne sais quois about it. I mean, its not as if you’re not completely obvious. And with the increased hand wringing around these parts lately, the stream of agitated responses to an obvious point designed to inflame are a welcome

Sorry, you said they didn’t work on hills, you didn’t say on the side of a hill.

On a side hill could they not just put another couple of pieces of leather on the bottom/exposed side thereby making it functional as far as keeping the elements off? The poles are adjustable so adjust them in such a way as to take into

Reading this thread makes me feel like we need this image, because some posters are equating hijabs with burqas (not you Hank Greenbush, but others).

This.

I’m in the same boat. Yes, some Muslim women “choose” to wear them. But they’re choosing to wear something that is the creation of oppressive men. Maybe in a post-sexist society you can pull that off and I’ll but the justification. But I have a hard time wrapping my head around anyone choosing oppressive cultural

just yesterday i went back to look for darrell’s work on the challenger space shuttle disaster. i hadn’t done that since gawker died. all the comments, gone. heartbreaking.

Hachi is not tomato. Really.

Hijabs are not burqas fyi. Many women embrace the hijab on feminist grounds. Not saying she is necessarily representative, but the one woman in this article who has worn the niqab says, “Regarding the niqab ...I don’t like it, but that’s just my opinion. Firstly, because it isn’t an obligation to cover your face in

Count me as really happy to run into you again. I’ve missed you.

I actually don’t mind your brand. It delights me, knowing “who” you are, watching people respond to you in hissy fits and tizzys. Pretty accurate representation of our country right now.

Don’t make me like you

I agree with you. It’s reactionary to say that banning them is controlling women, but the burka itself is meant to hide them! Just because they are banning something for women, doesn’t mean its automatically sexist. All these comments I see claiming is more oppressive to make a law to prevent women from wearing them

Thanks for proving my point. We’re not talking about something you wear “sometimes” “to hide [your] face.” We’re talking about something you wear all the time (outside) that hides your whole body. Individual anonymity is one thing. Burqas have the effect of rendering an entire gender invisible. Ftr still not for the
