Daniel is hotly debated in my household. I have an instinctual aversion to him, the first moment I saw him. Season two, and he just kept popping up in places he wasn’t invited. Yuck. But my friends love him and find him swoon worthy.

I always thought Daniel was creepy. From his face to his boundary-testing tendencies.

They shouldn’t be. One is a literal snippet of another song, the other is an “interpretation” (I feel that word is a bit more apt). Interpolations can be literal, I’ll sing the damn song myself to avoid sample clearance (it still has to be cleared, but I do think it’s less of a hassle), or I’ll sing the song ‘cause…

It’s kinda what Kanye West did with Jamie Foxx in “Goldigger,” since Ray Charles’ estate didn’t clear the sample... or with Syleena Johnson in “All Falls Down” since Lauryn Hill didn’t clear the sample...

It never ceases to astound me how some cultural giants remain sequestered in their cultures. You’d get lectures for days for saying, ‘who is Stephanie Mills’ in my family.

People have always been brands, but  typically it’s called a reputation.

They’ve already spent all the money on it, so they need new subscribers to watch it, and current subscribers to sustain it with viewership.
