@BEERxTaco: Thanks for the correction: you are right. I was just a kid when these ads were run, but I had always thought it was for BASF. Oh, well, I still think is was a great ad.

Forget iOS, I used to love that old BASF ad displayed in the post.

@Brookespeed: Apple has enough/too much power and control over their products already. This idea was ridiculous. One would think that Apple is smart enough to know it would never fly.

Great news, it was a stupid idea. Not only does the consumer have an easier time moving carriers, but if anyone has had, like me, failed SIM cards, one can still just get a new SIM rather than toss your phone in the trash if it is out of warranty.

@mrisinger: I've actually never typed this before but...+1.

@eMeS: Yes! Now let's start a new thread on Economics.

@pirateaboard001: Could be but the definition of ROI or even VOI as eMeS mentioned leaves the possibility open, but that's just my opinion. I didn't understand the kerfuffle my two sentence comment caused. I think most people got the point so I just decided to try to put it to rest in a very exaggerated way hoping to

@jpresson1: I wonder if he'll have to wait in line for a week at the "Turn Your Wife into Two Younger Models" store?

@coodgenducta: Uh, ok. Touche. I've actually done many ROIs, and I did not misuse the phrase, but I'll surrender.

I didn't think you could hold spots. And I'm pretty sure an ROI would determine that they are better off going to work.

I signed up for a Blockbuster DVD exchange at one point. I could have four DVDs at once, and got two coupons each giving me a weeks rental of a video game via in store pickup. All for something like $15/month. Clearly they didn't do the profit/loss mass because when my credit card expired and my payment failed,

@vinod1978: I tend to judge bands I like on whether they are better live than in the studio. I wish more bands would release live albums. I just happened to be at a Jay Z concert, even though at the time, I didn't own any of his music. The guy stole the show, and he is now in my playlist.

I like bacon ALOT, but this...this is fucked up.

@vinod1978: Right. They were props, not singers or songwriters. I remember that they released a real single days after this story broke, with them actually singing, and they were...well, to be nice, not good. It is even hard to even argue that they were used. They were willing participants, not a doe-eyed boy

We're comparing Apples to Oranges here. I can argue that my Apple products, especially the texting app, do a crappy job at spell checking, but the phone I used to have from Orange UK, worked fine for spell checking. Where's the science here?

I thought the official coming out party was during Canada's Much Music awards. I remember the music and singing started about 2 seconds before Milli and Vanilli even reacted.

@symbology: To quote a very odd person I overheard on a plane: "every snowflake is different."

So it's for dummies (no offence meant, I own a couple), but for those who are dummier than just dummies?

@symbology: I originally thought those were for kids, but they actually help my wife go to sleep. The downside is that the dog is confused.
