Agreed. As someone who hated the Lost ending, I find X-Files a lot more disappointing on the whole, especially after a re-watch. Lots of their mysteries resolved in ways that were just as unsatisfying as those on Lost but online television criticism was still in its infancy then so X-Files got a pass.

‘Hambourgeois’ is a real word, so you’re not far off.

Are you Canadian? I am, which is why I am getting tired of hearing people excuse Atwood’s race issues with ‘hey, she’s Canadian.’ I was raised to believe Margaret Atwood was the centre of my country’s literary elite; I didn’t stumble upon her last year. I’ve met plenty of women from her generation who wrestled with

No one expected her to literally incorporate intersectional feminism as a theoretical term into the novel. That’s not what Clarkisha Kent is saying. It’s not like people weren’t aware of the complicated intersection of race and gender before the term was employed. That theory didn’t emerge from a vacuum. It’s a

Do we really believe that white women should only be responsible for acknowledging the existence of the racism experienced by women of colour after 1989? The Handmaid’s Tale can be defended on several grounds, but this isn’t one of them. Also, Atwood’s terrible treatment of indigenous women on twitter certainly took

I don’t even think Atwood took the term ‘Bad Feminist’ from Roxane Gay because she probably hasn’t read anything written by a black woman since 1975. In some ways, she has gotten away with white feminism far more easily than an American would, by pointing the Canada’s ‘different’ context. Only Canada isn’t so

The real villain of this story is Oprah, who once took a picture with him.

A few things come to mind here:

No, that’s not at all what I’m saying and my logic does not bring me to that conclusion. The difference between Weinstein and Polanski is significant Many people who worked with the Weinstein didn’t even interact with him (he bought films they signed onto beforehand etc). People who he harassed are not culpable. No

Franco is the weakest link and unfortunately plays twins. There’s also a Piper Chapman character who takes too much screen time away from more interesting people. But Gyllenhaal and the rest of the cast are all great, it’s worth seeing just for them.

I did see that and think the bit about loving his movies was more of a fake ploy to get close to him in order to punch him on camera.

I see what you mean in terms of the context of when/how women are asked about this, and for what reasons. Some people are looking for a sensational headline and not asking in good faith. Timing matters. I don’t think it was appropriate to ask Greta Gerwig about it at the Golden Globes, because she was obviously not

Don’t respond to him! He’s an attention-seeking contrarian sea lion who obviously gets off on having the worst take and pretending that those who respond with basic common sense are victimizing him. He’ll never go away if we don’t ignore him.

I definitely don’t see him as a hero of any kind; he asked his friend to tape the altercation because he wanted it to go viral. He probably asked for the selfie so he could punch him on camera from a good angle. I also think the idea that he was actually mad at Weinstein for not taking a picture with him probably came

He definitely did it with the hope that it would go viral, but I am guessing he asked for the selfie as a way of getting closer to Weinstein so he could punch him. No random fan has ever wanted a selfie with him.

Good for her, it’s never too late to express regret.

Better late than never, and Dylan Farrow voiced her appreciation. I hope this trend continues.

I’m very glad she clarified that she wasn’t apologizing.

That’s a bar virtually anyone could clear.

This episode is especially interesting to me because this is the first time Black Mirror has acknowledged racism at all in its many technological dystopias. The rest of its episodes suffer from colorblind plotting, as if tech has the same effect on people of all racialized/national backgrounds. Racism never comes up
