Mine went 8 years and 248k miles without any service. Would buy again. 

As someone who has paid off and closed all of my credit cards and installment loans (I have zero credit), I can say that yes, it does hurt your credit score. CreditWise (by Capitol One) says that my credit score went down by 75 points (and has remained down) since I’ve done the payoffs and closures.
