She’s already said she won’t go to Xfinity or Trucks. I would bet she hangs it up. As you said, she’s not happy being a mid-pack racer and she won’t be able to get a competitive ride with her track record.
I can totally see how you got there, the amount of backmarkers that cause a caution with 20 to go is surprising.
Xfinity is testing a composite body this weekend, so check that out. Body comes from a supplier and is fastened to the car. No room to tweak the body panels to gain an advantage.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a motor blown up from burnouts. Lots of tires ripping up quarter panels, but not an engine. Not saying it hasn’t happened though. Do you have an example?
I was just about to rage type a response to this snarky article but then came down here and saw that you did it for me. Thanks dude.
Solid point. So basically this guy wants a CBX....
Yamaha’s new touring bike is a V-twin. Kawasaki’s touring bike is a twin. Suzuki doesn’t have one. The only inline 6's are Goldwings or BMW’s.
Chevy’s 8.1 (454) made 330 horsepower. So does Ford’s 2.7 Ecoboost. Is the 454 underengineered and a waste? No, it’s made for it’s purpose it serves. The Harley is the same way.
They don’t move around in the wind, they can carry more luggage and passenger weight, and you can bet you won’t have an issue with the frame cracking. They’re made for the purpose they serve.
Lots of times driver and sponsor contracts fall on the same years because of the driver/sponsor relationship. With Carl leaving in the middle of his contract, it might have created a situation like I described above. All speculation from me so IDK.
The segment was set up well in advance, with the details sent out to Joe Gibbs PR and Daniel’s PR. They reviewed the details and signed off on it. That’s why drivers and race teams have massive PR and legal teams, to see this type of thing coming and either get it cleared or shut it down.
It’s the latter. NASCAR isn’t worrying about this and the drivers know how this goes.
Go watch the finish of the Bristol race in 1999, the famous “rattle his cage” incident with Terry Labonte. The place erupted in boos as soon as it happened and they lasted through his interview.
DingDingDing!!! We have a winner! Carl was in all kinds of Subway ads, not just in NASCAR. He appeared alongside other sports athletes across all platforms.
Not really for the driver to worry about. Joe Gibb’s PR people should have been on top of this.
How is it that Jalopnik hasn’t sent a reporter to an NHRA event? Watching a Top Fuel car make a pass is one of the coolest automotive experiences out there.
Folks, just because there is a certain image associated with a motorcycle doesn’t mean you have to follow that image. Some of the people here seem to think that if they get within 10 ft of a Harley they’ll start dressing in leather and being a douchebag.
Except the “genuinely affable” part. Kyle doesn’t usually come off as a guy you’d like to have a beer with like Jr does. Kyle appears more like the BMW driver who cuts you off and flips you off on the freeway.
Very true. Unless drivers are bringing in big time money, they’re being forced to take a big pay cut or go look for a different job. That’s why guys like Paul Menard have no problem getting a ride, he brings with him tons of sponsorship dollars.
