This is really good analysis. I don't watch this show, but I was thinking about the Simpsons "Who Short Mr. Burns" Part 1 and 2. Yes, it was a different era but I remember both episodes being fairly solid and the summer-long contest put on by Fox. I don't remember being annoyed by that. I wonder how much of the blame…

Why not? They've crashed and burned before (and recently) and at no point did they kick out the anti-intellectual wing of the party.

I said/thought that too, but only because my friend busted out his NES recently and we discovered how unbelievably hard/not fun most of the games were.
