For an application like a long-haul truck, does it start to make sense for a diesel-electric arrangement? A small diesel generator to help charge batteries while in motion? I know it is needlessly complicated for passenger cars, but with the new battery tech maybe the complexity doesn’t hinder a commercial truck? Just

Getting up the hill quicker is always gonna be cheaper (Read: Less energy consuming) than trying conserve with that tiny 200hp motor and very few roads are completely flat. You’re gonna need to double that, maybe even triple it, for it to make any sense. Going down the hill does not even out climbing up it either.

You can probably cut most of the weight of the transmission, as the truck will probably also be a single-speed.

You have to consider how much of the trucking industry works around drop and hook haul as well. Plenty of shipments see the same trailer pulled by multiple tractor units in the course of their travel.

Truck driver here, most trucks are governed at 65 to 69 mph, nobody is trying to go 50 or even 60. A truck that slow isn’t making good time and therefore isn’t making any money. When you’re traveling hundreds of miles at a time, every mph makes a difference.

No. Elon is working his way towards a Galactic Empire. This is just the beginning. First a smoke screen with ‘building cars for the masses,’ onto ehhh this not so important ‘rocket stuff, it’s just fluff.’ Then ‘solar panels to harnessing the solar rays to Plan Z: which is another Death/Planet giant laser beam to rule

And am I the only one who thinks their truck design looks like a Stormtrooper helmet????

Interesting speculation. I kind of figured they would be better suited to local route style runs where the driver usually clocks around 100 miles but it takes 8-12 hours. You wouldn’t have to put the diesel engine through a bazillion heating and cooling cycles and when you park your truck back at the dock just plug it

Does it even need a separate tractor, as the batteries can be under the trailer (where there is half a car’s height of space anyway...) and motors integrated too? Just add a small driver-pod onto the top front of the trailer and turning front wheels. Bam, increased space efficiency!

Me too, with an 8ft, box as I don’t need the people carrier part, but could use the all wheel drive, cargo space, and some towing.

That’s not a mule, THIS is a mule. ;)

2 things:

Stretch the bed a bit and call it a Commanche? Or are they no longer using that moniker for PC reasons?

I would never waste my money on a king cab Jeep pickup. A two-door, though, is beautiful.

the jk8 looks even better

The 2 door Wrangler seems to be getting more and more scarce. It seems like 80% of the JK’s I see are 4 doors.

A 2 door short bed version is the only version I ever wanted.

Honestly the only kind of pickup I’d ever consider owning

A Jalop is never satisfied.

I’m still hopeful that there will be a two door...hopeful, but also doubtful.
