God, me too. The Report was brilliant. I went to several tapings. I almost left him out of my comment because criticizing Colbert just makes me too sad, but his show now just isn’t that good. Ironically, I also feel like his politics were somewhat bolder left when he was playing a right wing caricature.

They are all branded and marketed as satire. Perhaps you’re using a different definition but that is at least what they are supposed to be ostensibly. If you must, just swap in the word “comedy” instead since the point remains the same. They are political rants trying to pose as comedy shows, and they aren’t funny.

The original comment happened to mention Samantha Bee specifically. You may have noticed that I also went on to make a general critique of the other late night hosts from that comment. If you want me to rip into Trevor Noah, Bill Maher, Stephen Colbert (loved the Report, but his current show sucks), John Oliver, Seth

Well, first of all, it’s kind of throwing stones in glass houses for the AV Club to be complaining about a comedy show attacking the right wing, considering the ostensible pop culture site the AV Club has become mostly about jabbing at Trump in every single article. (Not that he doesn’t deserve it, but the political

Baron Cohen is depansting these people. He’s vastly better than Samantha Bee, who mostly just yells (not even makes actual jokes, just shouts in the general cadence of one) as if that’s supposed to qualify as satire somehow. I loved Stewart, but he did inadverently give rise to all these clapter machines that just do

So with Univision/Haim Saban gone will these publications be able to criticize brutal Israeli policies again?

Trevor Noah could probably be great if he actually embraced his role as a “foreigner” and spoke to a global perspective (which Oliver tries to do and sometimes succeeds). His problem is that he just isn’t especially funny and the jokes he makes (or are written for him) are invariably of the most generic “late night

She just wasn’t interested in it, apparently. She’s an actress and wanted to go do movies and sitcoms and stuff. That’s actually true of most of the correspondents, they leave after a few years to do movies or other shows and show no interest in being tied down to a desk talking about politics every night. I think

This drives me nuts about the Daily Show correspondents now. It used to be they were playing parodies of smug reporters. Now they’re unironically supposed to be the “woke,” correct ones who are interviewing braying idiots. The current ones have basically become what the correspondents circa like 2000-2005 were

I only skimmed most of the article but the Obama one sounds exactly like what he’s describing.

Political fascists like the Nazis are certainly still thriving, but it’s fair to say that the literal German Nazi army is dead and gone. I mean who exactly is Indy going to fight in the 1960s, Henry Kissinger? (Okay actually that could be really sweet.)

I don’t care about the stuff you presented because it isn’t actually evidence against what I said. In fact, your own post contains several hilariously wrong or just irrelevant things (why would it somehow go against what I’m saying to point out that the Heritage Foundation opposed the Clinton plan? My whole point was

I’ve read plenty on this stuff, thanks.

Nah. Maybe for the past couple years, owing to the Bernie Sanders campaign and groups like DSA and Justice Democrats applying more pressure on them. But the 2000s and most of the 2010s were a period where the Democrats continued to shift right. On the very example you mentioned, Democrats of the early 90s were vastly

I think this is basically accurate, though I’d add that our current system also incentivizes even (relatively) non-rich candidates to become president precisely BECAUSE doing so will make them filthy rich. When Bush or Obama are exiting office and immediately giving high-paid speeches to the industries they were

This also kind of ignores how useless a vote actually is in most circumstances, though. If you’re voting in a presidential election, for instance, your vote basically does not count outside of a handful of states given the realities of the Electoral College. By the same token, the vast majority of Congressional

It’s bad to be sure, but I can’t imagine it’s even in the bottom 100 episodes at this point. It wasn’t even the worst episode that year, let alone the next several.

This is something a feckless cunt would say

If international human rights laws were applied consistently, neither Obama nor Trump would be free men.

This isn’t as good an own as you think it is. Immigrant rights groups called Obama “deporter in chief” at the time and were endlessly critical of him. It was absolutely recognized by many that his immigration
