She’s clearly run out of obvious ways to maintain her relevance, so she’s decided that an ever-escalating litany of terrible pronouncements is the way to go. It’s only a matter of time before she takes hostages in an attempt to stay in the spotlight.

Yeah. Some of it, I think, is consumer culture - it drives certain kinds of change very, very quickly, and it tends to be much of what people identify with.

Yup, and I have that same issue (as I noted elsewhere) with Gen Xers who only remember the 80s and not the 70s. VERY different childhood experiences.
