Likely why it's regarded as the best area in the game due to its tightly crafted level design so that wouldn't surprise me if it's remnants of Demon's. Same studio basically and heck I'm guilty of reusing assets all the time.

Off the top of my head I believe even if you could connect certain clues the fact remains that Sony owns the rights to Demon's Souls and so Dark Souls has to be treated as a seperate entity.
