It's hard for me to choose which side of this war I'm on. On the one hand, I really really hate all this Christmas stuff going up so soon. On the other hand, I get to watch Jingle All the Way for two months straight.

I used to be all about hating Christmas creep. I used to glower at the families browsing those Christmas decorations put out in early fall in lifeless sections of department stores.

The artwork was always the best part, and the most terrifying. These are my favorite three.

I give you a lot of credit for telling your story. Animal cruelty is really hard to discuss with any sort of sympathy, let alone empathy for the attacker. I've always felt that sharing honest stories of horrible, terrible mistakes can prepare listeners for mistakes they didn't even know they were capable of making.

This is sort of a terrible thing to admit, but my dad sort of did this to one of our dogs when it was a puppy.

My little arthritic, diabetic chorkie, Trogdor.

He is so beta, he won't make any decisions or plans or take responsibility for anything. I find myself longing for an alpha man.

Yeah, she definitely sounds like a jerk. It almost sounds like that therapy exercise that you sometimes see on TV/movies that always goes terribly wrong, where one spouse is to speak in the other's voice. Or, you know, she's just not very self aware and kind of an asshole.

The last (ok, only) relationship i had, i don't think anyone "wore the pants".

Does this mean we spent the whole time naked? (I hope it does)

I thought Tolkien-ism was when the only black people in your story are a fundamentally evil, inhuman race created by using dark magic on noble white people, who work as servants for the BigBadAsshole. Oh, and the only brown people in your story are "wicked men from the east" who also happily work as mercenaries for

The thing is, people die from hospital-acquired infections in this country every single day, infections that are easier to catch than Ebola. And they're infections that we also have a much better handle on how to prevent and treat, yet people still die all the time. Where's the panic about that?

An important note: The only people in the US who have gotten ebola have wiped the butts of people WITH ebola. The nurses. This doctor. No one else. When the 7-11 guy gets it randomly, THEN you can worry, but not before.

Getting someone to drive you to the "best" neighborhoods for candy is an american tradition. I did it, my parents did it, no doubt my grandparents did it. These are the rules of trick or treating. First, you hit the "best" neighborhoods and get as much candy as you can (and at least one of you is carrying an extra

This woman is a twat. Lots of kids are bused into my neighborhood on Halloween night from the nearby poor/high crime areas. I don't think they're necessarily doing it for the candy, because we have our own share of cheap rich twats who pass out sub-par candy or no candy at all. I think it's more about safety. The kids

Dear Asshole,

I live kind of, across the way from a really nice neighborhood. Like, an NFL player lives nearby. My house is more in the "new owner" kind of size, but there are some fucking awesome houses. It's got the same kind of deal: every Halloween, buckets of kids come in from everywhere to go trick or treating. And you know

THIS IS MY FUCKING STEP MOTHER IN LAW.

I mean, in my view, they're already doing that. If you view employee health benefits as a part of overall compensation (it is), then they're dictating how someone uses their earnings. Practically speaking, it's not much different than telling someone they can't use their paycheck to buy condoms.

I love this idea. Conservatives shout about religious freedom being infringed, but only when it applies to them. Either religious freedom applies to all religions, or it's not really freedom at all.

I'm still waiting for a halal or kosher employer to deny, say, cholesterol medication to employees who don't subscribe to their religion's diet constraints. It's the exact same argument: can't provide medical treatment to a lifestyle choice that goes against their religious beliefs. I really want to see this happen
