OMG Nellie Olsen... I loved her and hated her. I feared her. I wanted to be her. Most of those mean girls on the list are flat-out villains, but Nellie was a little more than that.

All of the Hasselbeck woman's rants are astounding to me for their abrasiveness. But the one that took the cake was when Barbara Walters asked her, "Tell us what makes Sarah Palin qualified to be President?" and Hasselbeck replied sarcastically and cattily, "Oh, I'm sorry I didn't study for this pop quiz. Why don't…
@Nadezhda_Anatov: I tend to agree with you. Yes, it's nice that Hendricks is not stick-thin and still is regarded as very sexy. But most women, even those who are "curvy," don't have curves like hers. In other words, if she did not have huge boobs, she might just be another pretty, talented actress being told by her…
@Gynostar: replying to my own comment just to say, that's supposed to read "enjoy the show." Oh well.
Of course part of me wants Sarah to run for president. The comedy potential is huge. The dinner party conversation writes itself. And you figure, she couldn't possibly be elected, so why not enjoy the joy?
Sounds like a plot line for my comic strip. Unfortunately.
What I wouldn't give for a fraction of her pizazz.
Oh, come on. She's not that bad. She's running coherence circles around that awful Paula Abdul interview from a few years ago.
@robynsq82: Thanks for the suggestion. I humbly submit my own (far less slick & professional) feminist comic for your enjoyment:
All due respect to a well-regarded professional female cartoonist (I would kill to have Cathy Guisewite's career). But I never cared for this comic strip. I even made a parody "Cathy" strip once for a Spanish class assignment; it portrayed Cathy becoming so distraught over not being able to find a flattering swimsuit,…
Maybe I'm missing something? I thought the whole point of getting drunk in college was so you could act outrageously, hook up with random guys, and generally slut it up. Those are the things you secretly wanted to do, and alcohol just provided the courage (i.e. lack of sound judgment) and excuse for doing so.
Yeah. Feminism in comics fail.
@messybessy: I remember that. It was surprisingly poignant - both of those segments were. Demi Moore (was it?) as the woman in the 50's who couldn't get a safe, legal abortion was good too.
I haven't read Faludi's piece yet, but I can't wait to. It's probably unfair for me to comment if I haven't read it, but I'm going to anyway.
In time this won't be a problem. In the not-too-distant future, there will be more women than men in management positions.
