If I had to guess, it’s because it came out plumb in the middle of the Streaming War; people are fatigued by the idea of yet another service and don’t care to try it out, or might even be annoyed that they’d have to subscribe to one thing to regain access to content they’d previously had access to.

Same here (on both points). Did you also get to have some variation of this fun conversation?

I remember getting Listen Like Thieves after seeing the “What You Need” video (I actually won it from a radio station, I was the 9th caller!). I played the hell out of it, and the thing was, my Prince-loving girlfriend also loved it (she’d become a huge fan with Kick - sadly, the girlfriend part was very short lived),

First, Inxs and Midnight Oil deserve the Rock and Roll HOF. New Wave/Non Grunge alternative of the 80s and 90s still gets disrespect. More so if not American. The British aren’t treated well on that but the Aussies far worse. Depeche Mode taking that long proves the point, let’s hope this time around, and FFS not

I always felt this way about Psych, which was great but had the original sin of being structured as an hour-long crime procedural instead of a half-hour sitcom.

Alan Tudyk too broad? That’s like saying Tim Curry can go too big.

There is nothing in WW84 that is at all tied to anything about 1984. They couldn’t even properly tie it in to July 4th for any reason.

I agree, but I’d go a step farther and say that they blew it with every character’s backstory. This story lives or dies because of how you relate to the characters—good or bad. Even the “vallain” characters are written in a way that even though you know that what they are doing is horrible, you understand why they

Way to be an asshole who thinks children shouldn’t be virgins and being a virgin is somehow shameful.

Nailed it and completely agreed!

Excited to see Fran Kranz in something

Most fans of the original Walker, Texas Ranger watched it for Chuck Norris. Full stop. Chuck Norris. That’s it.

Yeah, they kind of half-heartedly imply that he’s 100% pure and good in this show, but in the book it is crystal clear that he is uncorruptable and that’s what makes his death really sting and give you the sense that maybe good isn’t going to win in the end.

So I quit CBS All Access after last week’s because my monthly renewal was due the next day and I literally only had it for this show. I didn’t get to see this episode, but I am actually beyond shocked that they went through with Nick dying. I didn’t think they had it in ‘em.

I do not watch this show, but I have read the book. I literally just come here because I find the reviews perversely enjoyable.

Yeah this series definitely feels like it was conceived around 2017-2018 when incels were a popular topic.  In 2020-2021, it just feels dated.

Harold is the only thing that really works in this adaptation which, as a character you’re supposed to hate, doesn’t make for much in terms of compelling viewing.

Making Harold Lauder the de facto main character has been the most baffling decision in a series of dozens of baffling decisions the creators of this mini-series have made. He’s had the most screen time out of pretty much the entire cast, if I’m not mistaken.

Reading between the lines on Ruby Rose’s departure, it sounds like she may have burned the bridge down to the support beams on her way off the show. Don’t think they’ll be bringing her back ever.
