I’m down to the nitty gritty in Final Fantasy 8. Just need to finish the Queen of Cards sidequest before venturing into the dungeon that will lead to the time-compressed world.

Sega released a “spiritual successor” called SolSeraph earlier this year. They even tapped ActRaiser’s original composer to write the theme music.

All of Quintet’s old games are owned by Square Enix (they were published by Enix back in the day,) and Square Enix is extremely reluctant to rerelease its Enix-published titles on affordable digital platforms. None of the NES Dragon Quest / Dragon Warrior games ever saw a Wii Virtual Console release, for example, even

I enjoyed Chip Zdarsky’s recent Spider-Man: Life Story miniseries which imagined what Peter Parker’s life might have been like if he had aged at the same rate that the book was published.

It’s intolerable what Kinja has done to the AVC commentariat community. This thread used to get hundreds of comments every week!

Can we bring up Joe Simon?

I loved Parker Lewis Can’t Lose and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the show still holds up reasonably well.

Yeah, by 2004 all the kids were into much less emotional rock subgenre of uh (*checks notes*) emo.

Absolutely. I have a huge amount of affection for Sandler’s time on SNL, because that’s when I was in middle school.

Yeah. Every one is nostalgic for their childhood in a different way, but certain attitudes tend to dominate in a given generation. Kids of the 70s and 80s tend to acknowledge the cheesier elements of their decade’s pop culture, regardless of whether they’re embarrassed by it or whether they have some wistful or ironic

Exactly. The worst part was the fiction that the kids being bullied were “bringing it on themselves” by failing to adhere to the strict and arbitrary behaviour code of the “cool people”, and it was therefore entirely acceptable for the “cool kids” to be bullying the nerds and geeks. In fact, the “cool people”, not to

Yeah. Even assuming that this latest rise in retro game prices is just a speculator’s bubble, the bubble still seems to be years away from bursting.

It’s weird that 2001 was nominated for best original screenplay (it lost to Mel Brooks’ Producers) but not best picture, when the movie has so little dialogue.

The summer tournaments, like the International Champions Cup, are generally considered friendly tournaments. They’re mostly an excuse to get European teams to play in Asia and the Americas.

The Practice had a fantastic final season, when they added James Spader (and later William Shatner) to the cast. I liked Alan Shore and Denny Crane much more on The Practice than on Boston Legal, as the former show was more firmly tethered to reality than the latter.

I can only imagine what two years has done to Onion.

Speaking of THAC0, I just started a nostalgia blog about 90s gaming (with a particular focus on AD&D 2e) entitledTHAC0 Thursday”: https://thac0thursday.home.blog/

Never say never. It was always assumed that the Tomy-owned Omega Supreme and Sky Lynx would never be reissued, but then Takara and Tomy merged.

It was indeed a Macross figure, originally; designed by the defunct Takatoku toy company. Hasbro’s original Transformers line didn’t just license toy designs from Takara’s Microchange and Diaclone, it licensed whatever transforming robot toys it could find, including Takatoku designs that were owned by Bandai.
