Another reason why most of these recommendations are a bad idea. Unless, you're well off and can do most of the repairs. In which case, you shouldn't need bargains in the first place. Kind of a dilemma if you ask me.

Doug Demuro seems to think most VWs are terrible in terms of reliability....and he did happen to work for Porsche for a while as well. Hard to not take the man for his word.

VWs are known for terrible reliability, at least in the most general sense. Do you agree with this? What do you expect in your car to die out first? Is it more reliable than say a Jetta?
