Well, we as college students don't have the budget of the big guys like BMW. That is why we buy pre-fabricated mbed rapid prototyping boards. But when you control all the information and can have your own ECUs made, no reason to stick to limited can bus mbeds. You have a single ECU that has as many CAN buses as you

Umm.......I work on RTL design for a living, for ARM processors. Your video card has exactly one computing center, it has many cores for texture binding and sending logic information back through a few central buses. Take a look at the Maxwell architecture from Nvidia, all those 2000 CUDA cores are logic cores, not

You are more supporting my thought that disproving it. Each logic chipset is not a computer. I fully support the notion of the airbag controllers needing a separate embedded setup, but everything else? Get realistic, no company is going to spend the time and money to do a separate embedded setup for something that is

Those are not computers.....

I doubt those are all ECUs Quade. Your seat memory shouldn't even take up more than 128kb of data (which is a ton of data for hardware), that shouldn't need its own ECU.

There is a huge difference between diagnostic kit and a self programming kit. Do you believe a diagnostic kit can program a custom fuel map to a BMW ECU? Is it going piggy back on a custom firmware? Why don't you actually get in touch with your indy shop to ask them what they do. Because it certainly seems like you

So sad Kevin, I don't own BMW? Not only do I own one, it's a 2014 4-series model. Tell you what, since you're such an expert, tell me the RFID key sequence off of your keyfob. Since it's so easy, your Independent shop should be able to do it for you. That's how individual key sets are programmed to access the BMW

As an embedded systems engineer....that makes no sense. I hope they're not counting each logic chipset as a single computer. By that logic, your Iphone 6 has roughly 20 computers.

Isn't this thing a death trap in terms of safety standards?

I am a computer engineer.....so I understand it pretty well. Unless you have BMW's hash sequences, good luck getting it done. There's a reason why their hardware can only be bought by BMW dealerships, not even certified shops have access to their hardware.

Thanks for the offer but I won't be buying anything until mid to late next year.

It's the Z2 concept rendering.

So a cheaper version of this from the same company?

What is this??? A car for ants???? It has to be at least twice as big!

Yesiree. Same reason it's very difficult to do aftermarket audio upgrades on the BMW. BMW ensures that if you don't get the stuff from them, you're paying a hefty price for the upgrade.

The CHP course here in CA covers the license and basic safety training, costs roughly $250. I've spoken to a lot of riders that claim that course saved their life. Going to do that course next year as well.

Thank you for the awesome reply! I'll have to take all these factors into consideration when buying next year.

Wow! Your tire path and battery replacement costs less than a battery replacement on a 2008 BMW 335i. My co-worker paid roughly $700 to do the battery replacement on his. And before you say why not do it on your own, you can't. The BMW's electronics have be reset after the replacement of the battery, which cannot be

I own a pair of M50s and frankly think they're crap. Never understood why so many like them, I guess it's the price point. I also own a pair of Sennheiser 598, Beyerdynamic DT 880 limited edition 32 ohm, Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 250 Ohms, and Sennheiser HD700. If you want a good pair of headphones, save your money, and

I can tell you this Jared, the interior in my 4-series is years ahead of a similarly priced Lexus or Infiniti. The interior in those brands felt cheap, and plasticy. Only competition it had was, that wasn't European, was with a Cadillac. And even then, in my eyes, the 4-series has a better interior.
