When that has happened to me it is usually about candy so I 100% believe the TJ’s person is sincere because mmmm candy. Maybe I am a sucker.

The local charter school (NorCal) has classes from 7:30 am to 5 pm. WTH!? How is that supposed to help students and teachers?
I was in there yesterday and I was wearing a sweatshirt from a very popular resort in a nearby state. One TJ employee recognized my shirt and said, “I love that place! You should talk to Bruce, he’s been going for years!” And suddenly, there was Bruce, who was hell-bent on having a 10 minute conversation with me about…
Exactly. The! Customer! Is! Always! Right!
Wait, what? You mean I’m not just really really good at picking out the things that the checkout clerk loves the most? Damnit.
Haha! That’s exactly why I worked for Safeway for a summer, too! Beer and NIN CDs!
Feel blessed.
Have you ever noticed that Trader Joe’s employees are constantly speaking to each other in an overtly cheerful manner about politics and sports?
You should have asked for a manager and demanded he be fired, then thrown your groceries in the manager’s face and refused to pay before storming out while screaming obscenities.
It scares me going into the container store, I suspect they are stepford wives and if I open up a large steamer trunk I will find the original person’s body stuffed in there.
My first job in high school was as a bagger at Safeway. I got written up for not smiling and greeting a secret shopper. I thought it was hysterical and bullshit then, and it would be even more bullshit if that job had been my livelihood and not something I was doing for a summer to keep myself in beer and NIN CDs.
On the few occasions I have visited TJ’s I noticed how conversational and chipper the cashiers were. The first thought that came to mind was “hey, maybe they really enjoy working here so they must be treated well by management.” But then I thought, “Hm, maybe management is forcing them to act this way regardless of…
It’s interesting when management fails to realize that company culture cannot quell regional culture and values. TJs in California is vastly different than in CO and rightfully so.
My brother has worked there for over a decade. He only has good things to say about working there. Now, he’s not liked individual managers but that’s normal at any job.
Every time I shop at Trader Joe’s, the clerk who rings me up gets extremely enthusiastic about something I purchases—like “Oh, that’s the best spaghetti sauce!” or “Oh, I eat this frozen broccoli every night!”
“I always try to be as pleasant and friendly (to everyone) as I can because they work very hard.” Here fixed it for you. Haha, sorry for the snark. I totally agree with you. There are some awful companies out there and their employees deserve kindness.
Shopped in TJs today, guy at check out didn’t even smile or said anything to me, should I feel offended???
I always try to be as pleasant and friendly to TJ workers as I can, because I think they work very hard and always seem cheerful. I think that kind of environment is fantastic, if it’s authentic. I have no idea how any TJ employee realky feels about working there.
LOL. Thanks for the education. But that makes my hilarious hippo picture meaningless :-(
