Look, I understand this is The Root. I understand that you understand im black. In no point during this conversation have I mentioned there being a preference to white or black people or movies. You have to get past this. My frustration with what gets chosen for Best Picture comes from the types of stories selected,

I neither get to choose what deserves an Oscar, nor would I make such a silly distinction from the dozens that come out each year. But, the Academy does, and they, up until fairly recently, have picked movies that either have a type of genre, or storyline that fits a narrative. I don’t need to study movies as an art

Ah, finally we got there. I figured as much, but I really wasn’t sure. My list for best Picture based on the movies I saw in the category, in order:

The Post would have probably been a better movie if they focused on the politics behind the decision alone, or even the feminism alone, instead of making Merryl Streep, Oscar bid #247.

White movies and black movies?

Which is so dumb. Sigh.

I’m only going to respond because I literally have no idea as to what you are trying to say. You acknowledge that the Oscars are politically motivated, but then say that the “best” movie is the one that is picked? Also, there is no way a Marvel movie gets “picked” even if it is the “best” movie of the cycle.

But in those specific roles you chose (Metcalf and Woody), don’t you think the characters are defined by their race? I mean, wouldn’t we have more of a problem with Three Billboards if Rockwell’s character were to exist and be that way so openly with a black sheriff? And Metcalf’s character in Ladybird was supposed to

When there 2(!) WW2 movies about the same damn part of the war, AND a movie about politics and journalism on the list of nominees, and neither get picked...

I feel attacked, mainly because I knew what you were talking about before I clicked over. I’m also pretty sure I’m one of the 300,000 people that liked that photo.

I agree, but I thought that was done intentionally, to focus more on say, the visual effects of the movie, and the main storyline as a whole. Also, I thought the tropes existed to show how people (and Hollywood) portrayed these personalities. The gay artist was alone, for example, not only because he clutching to the

I usually just pass on the “we” thing, cause taking emotional ownership in sports is fun.

I agree. In the BBQ “world” there are tons of ways to prepare the meat, what spices to use, where to smoke. And that doesn’t restrict it to regionality.

You’re being too nice. Tell homie to have a damn seat at the kid’s table.

ETA My gif is not working as a GIF, and now I’m sad.

I agree. But I think if, say, the Wizards had instead developed McGee into a defensive paint stopper that maybe works 10 mins a game, instead of trying to run an offense around him, they and he might be in a different place.

Sure they do. It’s why McGee gets burn on a championship team or why Bill Wennington has rings.
