Will there be anything posted on the AVClub in commemoration of Terence Davies’ passing?

Thanks for making this comment because I was about to come in here and start a scene. Also what is with the major Kevin Feige dick riding in the summary “...represent the mindless junk that existed before Kevin Feige started actually caring a bit about story.” do they not think movies had stories before marvel movies

“Any time anyone complains that today’s blockbusters are soulless, samey, hollow effects movies, force them to sit through the unholy trinity of Twister, Mission: Impossible, and Independence Day.”

Worth headline ever!

I like how “RIP the iPod” automatically comes up along with the other obits as a recommended article. Good job, automatons that are making the editorial decisions for Zombie A.V. Club!

They need to update that extremely distasteful, “See who else has died this year” slide show.

I guess they’re waiting for some celebrity to mention Robertson’s death in an interview somewhere. Then they can report on it.

This makes sense because it was very expensive to print the DVD to spin in the opposite direction

I’ll never forget seeing his 1981 HBO special for the first time. I was in love after only a few minutes.

love The Goodies, not sure you could classify them as sketch though.

I remember where I grew up, you could watch Monty Python at 1030 pm (on PBS), SCTV at 1100 and then SNL at 1130.

Agreed. Python is definitely #1 but I think SCTV is a close, close #2.

To be honest that its true , his humour was pretty anarchic, but its ..well.. some kinds of jokes were allowed then that arent now (hell theres a reason he’s had to have some of his Muppet show stuff removed), and its not totally wrong.

Ronnie Corbett (aka the one answering) looks to be on the verge of cracking up a few times during the sketch as he is realizing how well the jokes are hitting perfectly.

I was looking for that and The Vacant Lot.

I’d certainly put it right up there in the #5 no question

SCTV #1.

I will say that when the Two Ronnies hit....they hit BIG. I consider their Mastermind Sketch to be probably one of the most inventive things to ever hit TV.

The Two Ronnies is great but had quite a few sketches that don’t hold up well for modern audiences. But one of the great things about sketch comedy is that you can repackage them for “best of” shows losing the problematic sketches.
