Oh, I absolutely agree re collaborations between opposing forces. I just always assumed that Chevy, both by his own statements and his reputation, was just like "alright, fuck this, I'm out" and never looked back.
Chevy wanted to return? I assumed that his constant complaining about his character and what the writers and Dan wanted out of Pierce versus what Chevy wanted to do with the character meant that he was happy to be gone finally.
