Now I have to rethink my idea of going over Niagara Falls in a carbon fiber barrel.

Nobody has nailed it as good as The Mummy (1999) on this list. Just a superb action-adventure film, with an all-time great Action-Adventure Trio (Fraser, Hannah, and Weisz) that was so good that it made even the much worse sequel a pretty decent movie.
man, these ai-written slideshows get worse by the day...
The enormous tensile strength of carbon fiber makes it excellent for pressurized vessels; these are used for holding stuff like supercritical helium etc which requires withstanding absolutely massive internal pressure.
Where the hell is Romancing the Stone (and its sequel)? As far as Indy imitators go, it’s not only the first out of the gate, but it was also very influential in its own right. Half the adventure movies on this list steals its its romance dynamic.
No Alan Quartermain or Romancing the Stone?
Can we stop fucking around with the Titanic now? We’ve seen it, we’ve studied it, we’ve photographed it, mapped it, etc... Its not a tourist attraction, its a mass grave.
I always think of how crazy it is that an expedition sent to haul a body down from Everest can pass a climber going up to scatter someone’s ashes at the peak.
The real tragedy is this won’t leave nearly as majestic a wreckage to sell tour tickets for as the one it went down to look at
They lost contact 1 hour 45 minutes into the dive and the wreckage was found 1600 feet from the bow of Titanic. Sadly it seems they didn’t make it far enough or close enough for a viewing. I agree with you about the reactions from some; it is a terrible outcome. Not sure why the snark is so widespread? Perhaps…
The most hubristic part, to me, is that this bucket was manned in the first place. They tried to make it as cheaply as possible to juice profits, but it still had to be manned so the assholes renting it would feel like they really did something, conquered nature, saw a rare sight firsthand...through a single porthole.
“Presumed dead”
I think it was scratched off years ago, leading to where we are now
Contrary to popular belief, waivers can’t just protect a company from anything. This mission seems negligent enough to carve up the company and sell its parts to fund the plaintiffs.
Nah. Doesn’t work like that. Remember, socialism is for the rich and corps, not for scum like us.
Guess we can scratch carbon fiber off the list as a good pressure vessel material now. Yet another lesson how dangerous hubris can be.
Well Damn. RIP you crazy rich fools.
I doubt that there will be any OceanGate assets left after settling the lawsuits from the families of those lost. Waivers be damned, a jury will absolutely hold OceanGate accountable.
Hopefully OceanGate is going to pay the millions of taxpayer dollars wasted on this “mission”
