They kind of did. The Miata of the Era was heavily based on the RX-8.

I think this only applies to like 10% of 911 owners. Most don’t use them as a “family” car. There has always and will continue to be plenty of cross shopping between this and the vette.
CP price. But it should be noted that it's almost like these things were custom built for rallycross!
I’ll offer the contrary opinion that there is plenty of room for a convertible version of this car and not to make one would be foolish. One of the biggest reasons to do this is that with the targa top off and stowed it impacts the trunk’s storage space. This convertible would not only let people get open air motoring…
CP. While $1,500 certainly is beater car money, you’d be better off with a more reliable beater. Any number of Japanese cars can be had for this same price that WILL actually do another 100,000 miles with routine and relatively minimal maintenance.
I’m speaking from experience here, having had a manual Volvo 850 wagon…
This also makes sense when pricing out the current offerings. I mean the hatchback with the hottest engine and some nice amenities hits around $30,000. That compares with the Honda Civic Sport at around $23K. I can’t believe they would be able to put a product out that would meet the performance AND price needs…
Going to unabashedly talk about having seen the Glickenhaus in person years ago. It’s an amazing feat, but definitely feels more modern than the DeTomasa. The DeTomasa feels more like a hugely upscale Spyker in overall execution. I see the point on the greenhouse but it also is kind of similar to how the new corolla…
Observation for the Jalop staff - I know you live and breathe this stuff , but between this post and the one on the new boxster/cayman it’s important to include the details you might take for granted. Perhaps mentioning at the beginning of this article that this is a gasoline engine (I know you have another story but…
All I’m seeing is an over-styled and beefed up i8. Am I wrong? And before you rip into it, the i8 drives like a real sports car, albeit a slow one. lol.
I’ll take an 80 HP hit for a car based on a chassis from this decade and a 400 pound weight advantage.
Yeah it's not super impressive but they did a good job of coming alive when you push them. That inner tube seemed to shrink!
You ever drive a 6 series? They shrunk around you and actually handled very well for what they were. But this... this is a big mustang to my eyes.
Am I the only one that thinks maybe Erik needs a new car? Something a little more reliable like an old bug, yugo or something left hand drive?
What’s sad is that these are the kinds of cars that Nissan should have access to as a result of the partnership with Renault. Nissan has a great history of gutsy FWD cars!
They are still fun to drive and more than just a sum of their parts. Went shopping with a friend of mine for a new car and he cross shopped this with some offerings from Hyundai, Toyota and Subaru and the turbo Sport hatch he got was just miles more fun than the other cars (other than possibly the Hyundai which felt…
I’m a little confused about all these designations - correct me if I’m wrong but it looks like you can still get the “Sport” in a hatchback and there it comes with the 180HP turbo engine.
Having driven the Elantra GT (with the DCT granted) I have been mildly mulling an Elantra GT with a stick. 200 HP with a manual is nothing to turn your nose up at.
Maybe next time Mazda will be the winner in the Supra Partnership game with this engine. Worked for them with the Mazda 2/Toyota Yaris.
Does the Nissan article add a little credence to the Ghosn conspiracy theory for anyone else since he was arrested in Japan?
Thanks for the informed insight. Yeah the manual in the SS is a great transmission. Nice grab getting an SS btw. My buddy ended up unloading his after a year (because two cars became too impractical) and he completely broke even. Kind of amazing.
