I feel like they should just move on rather than recast TNG. Star Trek has usually suffered when it tried to look backward—Enterprise and Discovery are the weakest outings in the franchise.

Fauxcused, his memes on point.

This show was legitimately terrible. Trying to work a bland teen drama into the Resident Evil format was just a weird writing choice that they couldn't crawl out from under.

“I have strong opinions regarding this thing about which I have no actual knowledge” is basically Trumpanzee 101.

My problem with the future of Discovery is that it is *so* far removed from the future depicted by Star Trek that some of the progress feels meaningless. Knowing that the Vulcans and Romulans eventually merge and rename Vulcan feels hollow because we don’t have any investment in the steps along the way.

The Orville is a really sweet show and has had a tremendous amount of heart since the beginning. Early coverage here and at other sites was always pretty lukewarm, and certainly I don’t think the show got the long and gentle leash that, say, Star Trek Discovery received.

Am I misremembering, or wasn't io9 exceptionally bullish about the Snyder cut?

While I didn’t hate Ghostbusters: Afterlife, it did feel pretty pale. It was head and shoulders above the atrocious dumpster fire that was the 2016 film, but that was a low bar to clear.

Personally, I’d like to see them be less afraid of the future. I get that the sequel trilogy was poorly received, but there’s only so much they can milk out of the era between ROTJ and TFA.

Yeah, I don’t think anyone is trying to defend this particular piece. It was mindboggling bad and indicates that a lot of people up the quality assurance chain at Marvel are just awful at their jobs.

But to make the assertion that non-black people shouldn’t be hired to write a black character is, I think, far from a

We’re getting to a pretty concerning place if non-black writers are never allowed to write black characters. There’s attempting to address imbalances and then there’s race-gating, which feels pretty gross.

Miles was created by a non-black writer and he never felt inauthentic.

In fairness, I assume the dumptruck of money that she’s getting paid didn’t hurt matters at all!

I was so disappointed at how they had to finagle her unwillingness to participate in Endgame.

I wasn’t terribly impressed with the asthmatic, gurgly voice they went with either, to be honest. Grievous is such a weird addition.

Probably for the best. The new 4400 was definitely not great.

Even though you were wrong about the placement of the Wrath of Khan uniforms, you really pulled your bacon out of the fire with the DS9 uniforms ranking on top. Kudos.

I have to admit that the El Muerto news had me wondering if this was a joke. Sony is definitely on a bit of a weird, expensive Spider-bender.

I think that the show’s goal is to feature diverse actors, which somewhat overrides the desire for a fantasy land to have ethnic homogeneity.

This may be a bit pedantic, but Aviendha starts off the series as a Maiden of the Spear, not a Wise One. There are also a lot more than three Wise Ones. I think maybe you meant "three types" of matriarchal leaders, as there are Wise Ones and roofmistresses, but I'm at a loss to what the other type would be?

Okay, but who cares?

I’m not a fan of getting my facts from accusations, especially ones that are decades old. By his own admission, Whedon made some poor choices about consensual romantic behavior, but the fact that some people have not enjoyed working with him is not a damning black mark.
