You’re not wrong.  My take is that Gaga completely outshines Cooper as a singer so much that he appears to be hiding behind her in the version that plays on the radio.  And as far as the movie goes, the opposite is true - he outshines her so much as an actor that she seems out of place at times.

The song is legit bad, but the performance was a 3-minute re-creation of the movie. I liked it.

You are not missing anything. The movie was horrendously bad, the chemistry and acting were severely overwrought and it was BORING.
