Even if they just wanted lower taxes they also voted for a vice president who truly believes and advocates for gay conversion therapy. You can’t separate one thing from the other. If I were for lower taxes (I’m not) knowing my vote would put a guy like that close to the presidency would give me pause.

The reason no one mentions the dead man’s crimes is that they are irrelevant to the way he was treated while in custody.

Blogging about Daily Mail articles is similar to relaying Fox News articles: it’s not about the legitimacy of the medium, but the (undeserved) popularity.

Almost everyone who calls themselves a progressive/liberal calls it the Daily Fail here in the states.

Do you have any recommendations for resources? I can understand intellectually what the difference is and it’s obvious to me, but I feel like I lack the vocabulary to explain to other people why this isn’t a reasonable comparison.

Yes! I still trot out a my maroon leather jacket sometimes when I need to feel powerful. It is VERY later 90s but I always feel so kick ass in it.

I think that was treated with an unbelievable amount of nuance though. Like, they had had a sexual relationship, he took that to mean that her withdrawing consent was false (happens all the time), and then the look on his face when she forces him off of her and he realizes what he did was just very well-acted.

Thats like a hill billy saying “What next?! If you two GUYS can marry, why can’t I marry my dog?! Exactly!”

These are kids, for crying out loud. KIDS. He, as a fucking police officer who has had significant training for these types of situations, should know how to handle it without having to pull out his gun and shoot it. It was not the child’s responsibility to de-escalate shit.

It’s like how yes, people care about #OscarsSoWhite because it points to how racial problems even impact art.

Right up there with the codes words “Inner City.”

I like his stance. He’s not making it about him anymore than it is, and he’s using his privileged position to gently point something broken out.

I care. I get why it’s easy not to feel for Drake (I mean I still do anyway), but there are broader implications. If this sort of artistic segregation can happen at the highest levels, then it can happen at any level. And I don’t want little boys of color with beautiful black voices to feel like they’ll never be

In HER case, it meant that she SHOULD have been talen to the hospital immediately, though.

Prisons have their own set of charges. There was another story not too long ago about a woman who had spent *months* in solitary for the heinous crime of having one more pair of shoes than inmates were permitted.
