For the foreseeable future, since Ford cares not for a GT successor, the next generation Mustang can go balls out crazy and not worry about making the halo car look bad. The Mustang IS the halo car for all intents and purposes.

I read earlier that although the work was being done there it was mazda corporate that ponied up for this (including making trim parts that do not exist anymore) and reimbursing for labor and materials. It was basically a business move, good PR and cheaper than a commercial.
