Jalopnik, a car blog for people who know very little about cars.
Don’t take it personally fellas, I’m just venting.

Propping yourself up on southern derision? What exactly is dim in this situation? Anyone, anywhere could have made this mistake, and to be fair, the woman had a pretty impressive reaction time, throwing the hose away and shutting the trunk.
Also the lady from the car wash said “volatile situation”. I mean, that’s wit,…
Air bags are great for towing. If you’ve got an onboard compressor, just pump them way up for towing.
Do the H6 rear brake upgrade, if not done. It’s so cheap you’ll kick yourself for not doing it sooner. Also investing in some quality front pads wouldn’t hurt.
You may need a beefier hitch, as most subarus with an OEM…
And magnesium burns at 5,600 degrees F, which is the real culprit of the carnage here. Nothing escaped this fire. Look at that coil spring and imagine what the valve springs must look like.
Let’s not tell Italy we’re having this discussion.
Left foot brake, right foot gas. The clutch is just there for starting in first gear, pretty unnecessary if you’re savvy with your gearbox.
I completely agree with this sentiment. It’s sad that I, a lone mechanic, can put together a full-size, 4WD, half-ton pickup with a light diesel and get 30+ mpg using 1985 technology, and yet auto manufacturers just flat out refuse to produce anything comparable. Everyday, I’m more convinced that CRXs, VW Rabbits, and…
I don’t think its unreasonable to ask $5500 on craigslist for a car this nice. All things considered, I would think the first diehard subie fan to show up with $4000 cash would get the car without much debate.
I would think the early 3.0L would be the most common swap. 3.3L is a hell of a lot of work. Perhaps the 3.3L swap gets documented/talked about more on the fanboi boards, whereas guys like me are tossing 3.0s in imprezas and foresters without a word.
All later 3.0L and 3.6L variants use ECUs that are not compatible…
on another note, my 2000 Forester with 275k miles will likely be getting the 3.0L H6 treatment IF the motor ever gives up. Damn SOHC EJ25 just won’t quit.
H6 swaps are really only attainable with the early 3.0L engines as all newer variants do not allow for a manual gearbox. The computer just won’t allow it. Early 3.0L engines swap in just fine. As you said, the 3.3L is too long, but the 3.6L would be a tuner’s nightmare. I don’t think it’s been attempted with a manual…
I bet he doesn’t even realize it, but he’s probably only burning oil after about the 1800 mile mark after an oil change. A high mileage subaru will burn a quart between 2000-3000 miles after an oil change. I know all about it. My Forester’s got 275k on it and its as solid and strong as ever. Only loses oil when it’s…
That’s no where near a 98-01 2.5RS, which never came in wagon. That’s a completely different car.
I gotta say, Jeff Gordon’s got a good voice for the broadcast booth.
I’m sure I won’t be the only one to state the obvious, Ford’s Industrial 300 I6. In lieu of any decent diesel options, it’s probably the best engine ever in a half-ton truck. When the truck rots away, people just use them as power supplies for well drilling trucks and such.
A three round volley out to sea is a salute. No show of force here, just sailing men doing what sailing men do.
Straight from the US Navy:
That looks like a naval salute to me.
Haters be damned, I love my Buell Blast!! It’s my primary nice-weather transport vehicle. 70 mpg, goes off-road, single cylinder, single carb, air cooled, so simple to maintain, it’s a real gem. If the sensibility arguments ever really caught on with consumers, the demand may grow for these old bikes.
Its impossible to tell that from a video. The camera is capturing stills at a specific frame rate, so things rotating at high speed are hard to judge. This is why sometimes the speed of the object and the frame rate mesh in such a way as to make the thing appear to rotate backwards. This effect can be seen on car…
