I have backed out of a house over the same deal. Did you have the pipes checked? Not just interior ones: where I live (and I assume this is everywhere) the pipes from your house to the street are your responsibility too. When my cousin bought a house last year, she ended up paying $30,000 to get those pipes fixed.
