Absolutely could not disagree more. And literally, the name shows that you are in the minority. They don’t call it “the red eye” because you get off the plane feeling refreshed, having had sufficient sleep, and ready to face the day.

I do realize that, but there is a way that they could have done the violence and sex without it feeling quite as gratuitous, IMHO. Doing it the way they did was the least imaginative form of storytelling. Just showing  brutality is lazy

The probability of multiple hyperbolic encounters is vanishingly small. Most likely, it was ejected from a single star system and headed our way. And even if there were a previous encounter, we would have zero ability to know the trajectory of that encounter, so we would just end up assuming that it where it came…
