The nuclear waste issue is way overblown. When you put it in perspective you’ll see it’s actually a pretty insignificant amount.
And last I checked they don’t like windmills or solar collectors in their backyards either. Guess what: you’ll need A LOT of those if you’re getting rid of nuclear. They just don’t get it.
Folks will complain about “oh it takes decades to get a nuclear plant online!” carefully not mentioning that those same folks complaining fight a legal battle at every step to delay said Nuclear plant

Nuclear waste wouldn’t be a problem if plants could go ahead with their research into re-enrichment and reuse programs targeting spent rods. But even research into the subject is drastically hindered by antiquated regulations against the very idea itself.
