A tale told by an idiot

There’s a documentary about the Disney renaissance of the 80's and 90's called Waking Sleeping Beauty where the directors Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale talk about getting into heated argument with Howard Ashman and Alan Menken over a scene in the original script where you see the 11 year old Prince turned into the

Which is pretty damn rude of that witch-cursing a preteen for being rude is like cursing a strange cat for scratching you when you try to pick it up.

She had him before the castle was cursed?

So, the rose wilts on his 21st birthday. In Be Our Guest, Lumiere says “10 years we’ve been rusting!!” meaning the curse happened when the Beast was 11.

It isn’t taste.... it’s money. There isn’t anything in this year’s Oscar list that can’t been enjoyed just as much in the comfort of your home as the big screen. I’m not going to throw down $25-$30 + snacks for something I can see in my house for a fraction of the cost in a few months with no degradation in

I don’t go to the movie very often (esp. without the kids) and for that reason try to prioritize movies with impressive cinematography, sound, or special effects. Sometimes those films are disturbing or sad, but so long as the cinematography is good, it seems like I got my money’s worth. Everything else can be viewed

I like watching at home more than the theater, unless it’s a big movie like Star Wars, too.

Exactly this. I am a foreclosure defense attorney. While not your background, it means I deal with dense, dry work for desperate people. Just give me a stupid comedy at the end of the day and I’ll be just fine.

Yeah. Like I’ll occasionally see histroical fiction in theaters, but normally I have to watch at home because I’m a snarky little thing about obvious inaccuracies. Same for adapations. My mom was ready to kill me halfway through the first Harry Potter movie (I’ve gotten much better since then) and my friends during

I mean... i’ve done 10 years as an EMT. Another 10 in Child Protective Services. Currently working with drug addicts. I have seen enough “reality” for my lifetime, I don’t need to see it in my entertainment too. So yes. Blockbusters to let me forget the horrible things in the world, please. THe more unreal the better.

Honestly, I am waiting until most of those movies hit the DVD rental. Most of those films can easily be seen at home without much of difference. I want to see Moonlight because I hear so much good stuff about it. But I can wait another two months until it hits a rental. That’s the difference between that and say the

There’s nothing wrong with being 43 (my age) and still liking cartoons and comic based movies. You think kids make up the bulk of marvel ticket sales?

People can appreciate both low and high culture. I don’t have an opportunity or the cash to get to a theater often, so I will usually save those trips for a popcorn movie that looks best on the big screen. I will generally wait to watch something like Spotlight when it’s available to rent or on streaming.

Maybe I just want to be mindlessly entertained for my $20.

I think you hit the nail on the head. In LA it’s tough to find a movie playing on the weekend for less than $15 a ticket (not including food or drinks). At those prices, people are going to choose movies that are either best viewed on a big screen or movies of franchises that they are huge fans of and can’t wait until

I’m not saying those movies aren’t fun, but they’re fun in a different way that’s more approachable from the comfort of your living room.

Yep.

same. I’m not paying 15 bucks each for anything that will look just as good at home. i only go to the movies if the movie requires the hardware in the theatre to look/sound it’s best. if it was 5-9 bucks a throw, i’d go all the time, like i used to in the 90s!

I’ve never quite understood going to the movies to see reality. Like, people just talking or working, or doing yard work. You’ve got this amazing screen, sound system, etc., and it’s being used for the mundane. If I’m plopping down $10-$12 for a movie, I want to see intergalactic battles, Ant-Man swinging an airplane,

People aren’t seeing movies because they’ve become too expensive. In NYC, I pay on average, $15.00 a ticket. More if it’s in 3d or RPX or whatever tacked on nonsense charge. It’s a minimum of $50.00 just to sit down with my wife and kid. I enjoy going to the movies, but many people don’t have the luxury of ponying up
