I even had one Brit go so far as to say that if we pronounced Aluminium as Aluminum, then why isn’t Sodium Sodum and Potassium Potassum. I asked him if they pronounced Platinum and Platinium and Tantalum and Tantalium.

Last few hotels I stayed in had special chips in the room keycard. The slot only worked with a proper room key in it. It was really annoying when it was 47C outside and the A/C system took 5 minutes to boot-up. It had to be fully booted before you could turn it on. It wasn’t on by default. The lift had a card reader,

That’s a very good bet. They probably also took inspiration from the 1.5L BRM V16, and Britain has history of taxing vehicles based on engine displacement. Put the two of those together, and you get small displacement V8s.

They aren’t even fun to drive.

If we can get the TV networks to shift, everything else will fall into place.

A very good question. Especially when Amazon is trying to be more like Walmart by buying brick-and-mortar companies while Walmart is trying to be more like Amazon by setting up an online marketplace.

Please enlighten me on how irrational bubbles like dot-com, bitcoin, and tulip-mania can’t happen.

You realize that 6:30 am standard time and 7:30 am DST are the exact same time? My work day starts at 7:30. Our shop technicians start at 7:00. When DST starts, a bunch of idiot politicians have essentially told us that our days have to start at 6:30 and 6:00 for 8 months.

The hoopla definitely helps. But I’m pretty sure those bitcoins that recently sold for $18k were no different than the ones that sold for $8k one month earlier. And they didn’t need a showman CEO making outrageous claims and promises to get there.

Or we just go to standard time year round so that “noon” and “midnight” still mean something. If we want more daylight in the evenings, we can all agree to just start our days an hour earlier. There’s nothing wrong with starting the work day at 6:30 am.

Market cap has nothing to do with delivery deadlines. Market cap is nothing more than the combined value of all Tesla stock. It’s really just a measure of how much investor lemmings are willing to pay for a particular stock. If Tesla-mania were to take off like tulip-mania, Tesla could be worth $1 trillion by next

That’s what it’s going to take. If enough states opt-out, the rest of the country will follow.

If you want more sunshine in the winter, move closer to the equator. Winter is when we’re on Standard Time anyway. If we quit the DST madness, your wintertime experience won’t change. It’s only the “summer” from March to November that gets shafted.

I never said Christina should try to get into F1. The press needs to wake up and realize that there are better drivers than Carmen Jorda. Christina Nielsen and Katherine Legge just to name two.

If only Christina Nielsen could get some press. Looks like she finds it pretty easy to compete against, and beat, men.

I approve.

The dental floss must also not get brittle at cryogenic temperatures. Most common plastics that you would find in things like zip ties get very brittle at mundane temperatures like -40C. Just giving them a funny look at that temperature could make them snap. There’s no way they’d hold together at the cryogenic

Yeah, I’ve heard of UberPool. I haven’t seen any data on what fraction of Uber rides are multi-destination vs. single destination. My gut feel is that the average number of destinations per trip will need to be at least 1.2 for Uber to be congestion neutral.
