I think we’re on the same page. My point of contention is referring to her as “a” doctor. Which, if not technically false, is not how pretty much everybody uses the noun "doctor" vs the title "Dr."

Being Dr. Corporalwhatever is pretty different than referring to yourself or being referred to as “a doctor.” If there’s a medical emergency in a restaurant and they ask if anybody is a doctor, nobody is looking for somebody with a doctorate in history.
