Playing this game and wandering around looking for Pokemon thingys will most likely construed as “Lurking.”

But that doesn’t make the OP’s statement invalid. Just because the rednecks in your community don’t fear the black residents, doesn’t mean it’s the same elsewhere.
As a white male who has been assaulted by a police officer and interrogated for driving through a small rural town with my black then girlfriend, I disagree.
Sauce for your stats?
This is an excellent piece. It is exactly this type of situation that I take for granted as a harmless and safe (and fun!) exercise that just isn’t those things for (usually) black men. Imagine the absurdity of a cop pointing a gun at you demanding to know what you are doing and responding, “I’m just tying to catch a…
This was a short, succinct, and great piece. This would never have fucking occurred to me, gonna be honest, even though I LIKE to consider myself fairly aware of this kind of thing. But this is the kind of commentary we need; racism and rampant murder of Blacks pervades every aspect of our culture, it touches…
And that is what white privilege is Black and Hispanic will be less likely to be suspicious of a white man. In fact Blacks and Hispanics would be more suspicious of their own race before a white.
Are you deliberately being dense? Are you REALLY stupid enough to believe that ANY of the following would happen if you wondered around a Black or Latino neighborhood:
“This week has been a catastrophe for Blackness. Two men, Alton Sterlingand Philando Castile, were killed by police officers within 24 hours of each other. Neither had committed a crime that was punishable by death nor did they put any officers lives at risk. It’s inexcusable, unjustifiable, and is perpetuated by a…
Things escalate when when people get nervous.
I literally just witnessed an altercation in my complex for this EXACT THING. Black teen was wandering around the parking lot at night, swiping at his phone. There’s no pokestops here, so he’s just aimlessly wandering around catching mons, when an older white man starts yelling at him to get lost. The kid tells him to…
If you’re Japanese and you wander around aimlessly in an alley, the police will question you. Same being white in Canada or whatever other vastly Cauciasian country. When everyone is treated equally, everyone is questioned for suspicious behavior.
Also, might I add that hundreds of white people are killed by police in…
I don’t think it’s inaccurate to say the game itself creates a specific situation where it could exacerbate the issue.
There is only a video after he was shot, show me what happened previously and I may agree with you.
Except for the ones that comply, and get shot anyway. It happens, so don’t say it’s because they’re being confrontational.
Pokemon Go deliberately asks to be in places many of us would not normally be seen. By the simple virtue of white people seeing the unexpected, fearing the unknown, and assuming the worst, a black man playing ANY enhanced reality game where, according to racists and cops, ‘he doesn’t belong’, endangers him.
Unless you are doing something shaddy (get it?), you will never have a problem with the cops.
You are seriously underestimating what black people feel afraid of.
Agreed. He’s not saying Pokemon Go is bad or wrong, he’s just pointing out that loitering and wandering around with your phone like a creeper is more dangerous for a black person than a white person.
I was gonna write “inb4 all the ignorant and racist bullshit” but there’s already a “fuck off” comment, so I guess I’m too late.
