Another thing that is totally ignored by this restructuring is that most of HBOs shows have a long tail. You can watch a decade or more old Sopranos episode, but nobody is looking for decades old YouTube shows. So, the more quality content you produce, the more gets added to your backlog. Sure, Ballers isn’t high art or anything, but when you think about the fact that their least acclaimed show still has one of the biggest movie stars in the world in it, it’s still on a different plane than your average network.
