I have long dealt with having to limit the size of my collections of various objects, so Ron’s story hits home with me. In so many ways I feel bad for him. It has to hurt to see these vehicles go away..
Crossing a surging river around midnight. What could go wrong?
How bout hauling things you don’t want in the cab? Or being an all purpose vehicle for off roading, towing, hauling, and moving people? TBH, I’ve never found the popularity of pickups to be that much of a mystery.
Off-topic a bit - but GM really should do a new Astro Van. I see so many on the road still both as work trucks or camper vans. They are the right size for cities but tough enough to hold a lot of stuff.
“stratosphere” — does nobody remember 2010-2015? Still nowhere close to what gas was for a really, really long time.
It’s amazing how much people like to hate on Tesla. I think they’re lacking a true corporate focus (luxury vs mass-market, can’t really do both) but otherwise deliver a substantially good product.
Insurance for when the Tesla bursts into flame in a parking garage? (Which I still wonder if that Shanghai incident was faked to make American Tesla look bad so to boost the Chinese EV industry.)

Someone cross-post this to Jezebel where they seem to believe that women never, ever, ever do this.
“What advantages does this war have over, say, an ethnic cleansing, which I could also afford?”
I think this is pretty spot-on and is something I’ve been saying to folks for years now. It really hit home to me in the closing weeks of the 2012 election during the peak of the “unskew the polls” phenomenon. The rubes were eating this shit up as usual, but then it became obvious that plenty of actual power players…
I propose renaming it “Project Sunk Cost Fallacy”...
Yeah, but then you will own a Buick.
I just bought a 2011 Challenger SRT8 w/ 30k miles for less than a new Challenger V6.
Turns out flat wages for a decade means consumers can’t buy the products they used to buy anymore. And the solution of longer loans or subprime lending has a limit, that they are apparently starting to hit. Is the trickle-down scheduled to start soon? It’s been about 30+ years, so it’s overdue.
