I’m not usually one to advocate leaving the country you love, but I just finished a re-read of The Handmaid’s Tale and it has me spooked. That book is much closer to horror now that I am an adult and these things are taking a shadowy shape in America. All I can say is be ready, and we will be here if you need us.

We are suuuper lucky that Jerry Brown’s term coincided with the Cheeto Bandito’s reign. I would even be willing to change the law that limits governor’s terms if it meant keeping him for as long as the resistance is warranted.

When I was growing up, there was an adage that said: “Where California goes, so goes the Nation.”

Fucking A. When the rest of your country goes to shit, you guys can come hang out with us Canucks. You sound like good people.

Just moved here for a museum job about a year ago and I am SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS! My grant is until 2020 at least so I’m reallllly hoping I get to take advantage of this while waiting out the entire orange presidency from this SoCal oasis.

I moved here 18 years ago from the reddest state in the Union (Indiana) and I haven’t regretted it even for a second. This is where I really belong.

That would be amazing. I’m so upset and pissed off today :-(

These fuckers all talk shit about California but we had 300k new residents move to the state in 2016. Mostly in the cities San Francisco, Los Angeles et al. They hate us liberals but they move here.

I don’t know if this will end up happening, but it should scare the hell out of the health insurance industry that the most populous state in the Union is seriously considering going single-payer.

That’s why we love it, n’est ce pas?

My Rep’s statement regarding the vote reflected exactly that sentiment.

California is big enough to give this a good start. I’m thinking we need to form regionalized systems as well. For example, CA gets it up and running and then Oregon and Washington join in. A larger pool to spread out the risk. States joining together might also start the push to a federal system.

California in some ways is too good for the US. In many others... it’s the worst.

NY is working on something similar, too. I hope they can get it through.

Damn it California quit luring me back.

What’s the over/under on a GOP member who supports the current healthcare bill under the guise of ‘states should choose how to do healthcare’ opposing this because... reasons?

SB 562 is working its way through the California legislature. Some text...
