Interesting.

"I think they released a single with Dave Evans, right?"

No love for Trevor Rabin in Yes? He and Anderson certainly shared frontman responsibilities for a few albums there.

I don't like counting singers who might have been in the band before anybody knew who the band was. The first guy in AC/DC…really? He counts?

"Belladonna’s hardcore-inflected growl."

Or 45-year-old me right now!

Well done sir!

You know they're making brewed decaf now…

I'd say that the distinction does matter(obviously, or I wouldn't have mentioned it!), and that it can be reduced to two pretty straightforward musical techniques - extended palm-muted riffs and solos that go beyond pentatonic.

Dude. We all know that high school can be a horrible time and sometimes those metal guys just pick on you for no fucking reason, the bunch of jerks.

"GN’R is a reminder of when metal"

Ok, that was an interesting piece.

Interesting…

"She's on an indie (granted one run by Jack White)"

"I guess the difference for me in that regard is that Taylor Swift started as a teen. Margo is 32 and she just released her debut album."

I'll give you that. And that's the peculiar aspect of this - I may not be a fan of her "thing", but it's so much better to me than all the pop songs dressed up in (increasingly rock-like) country trappings.

"at least I believe those guys are more or less telling their story."

It was nice.

Ehh…you're less cynical than I am. She's a product and I don't care how much people say, "But she writes her own songs!", she's being propped up by Music Row professionals.

The afternoon drivetime DJ on the big rock station in Pittsburgh used to say this line, back in the heyday of classic rock radio…somebody would call in to request some Seger, and the DJ would invariably say, "How about some live Seger?" And then he'd play Katmandu and I'd have to change the station.
