"Shred" and "kicks ass" may be synonymous, but that doesn't mean they should be. Shred should be reserved for the style of playing for which the term was coined.

It used to have that meaning. But now, in that same way so many words have had their meaning watered-down or co-opted entirely, "Shred" has come to mean "a person who plays competently."

Up here in Milwaukee, the lightning storm to the south was quite impressive. It was like Emperor Palpatine was bored and spent an hour shooting energy from his fingertips just for the fun of it.

You know, the word "shred" used to mean something specific. It meant you could play fast and clean, and probably played music in the Bach-and-Roll style. Or at least possessed some serious chops. Technique.
