Activate tinfoil: Some executive passed on the project, but wanted to probably keep the option on it for a white observer narrative high jacking a black story, a’la Green Book.

Fucking morons.

I love, LOVE seeing a young drummer so jazzed about drumming that the amazing drumming isn’t enough and she has to scream along!

I hope he wears earplugs, because that is a VERY real problem!

Dammit, why you got to ruin things with your medical science!

Uh some apologies are too late. I lost count of the number of professional black men that were stopped and harassed by the stormtroopers in blue for no fucking reason. Note these were men dressed in business attire that were accosted by these clown I being one of them. I can only imagine what men not wearing suits and

The single reason why I avoided visiting NYC for so many years was Stop and Frisk. I have had my fair share of unwarranted searches and car stops in Houston. I didn’t want to experience the escalation of these practices in NY.  I’m glad our community is not giving Bloomberg a pass.

Fuck off Bloomberg. You bought your way in to the laughable New York republican party in order to get on the ballot and then you bought two elections. When that wasn’t enough, you bought Speaker Christine Quinn in order to short circuit NYC term limits, forever tarnishing her political career.

It’s funny. Mike turned this whole damn city inside out and made it the sparkling hotbed it is now; ripe with gentrification, an open door policy for folks from every corner to move out here for jobs and the biggest money pit ever for real estate, among other things.

I don’t think their talent levels should factor Into whether we remember and note who the first black players in the NFL, NBA, etc. I mean, Willie O’Ree was the first black player in the NHL but his stats are definitely nothing to write home about compared to other black players like P.K. Subban who have come since.

I think we definitely know Jackie Robinson because he was one of the best 2nd basemen to ever play the game. His greatness as an athlete is unquestionable. Cooper, and Kenny Washington (first black player in the NFL) had forgettable careers, and were easily overshadowed by the guys that followed.

Time heals all wounds. He went back because Red Auerbach asked him to. He had too much respect for Red to say no.

Well reading that story just makes me like Cousey even more. It’s a damn shame what Russell went through in Boston but at least he had good teammates and a good boss, if I were him I don’t think I would have ever gone back to Boston if I were him,

Back in the mid to late 90's, I was a bike messenger in downtown Seattle. On occassion, the good messengers would get car deliveries that paid more money. I guess I was one of the good ones since I did get car deliveries frequently. Anyway, I’m delivering a package to a wearhouse type district in, I believe, Bellevue.

There are tons of Boston fans who revere Russell but hate Kap and don’t see the parallel between the two.

So who the hell is Chuck Cooper?

For those that don’t know Russell refused to return to Boston for a loooooonnnnggggg time after he retired. The shit he went through there had a profound effect on him. His number was retired in a private ceremony at the old Boston Garden. Russell the man is ten times the player he was and that is saying something.

Mr. Russell is an incredible human being. Thank you for posting this story.

This just made my day even better!
