Perhaps it wasn’t a bedroom poster car, but everyone and their dog was modifying them back in the day. Big community around them. They were a lot of people’s first car. The kids who drove these in the 90s are now in their 50s (i.e. peak buying power years).

These will never be collectible. Nobody ever had a Buick Retta poster in their childhood bedroom. 1990s cars that were going to be collectible are already going up in value.

Yes. The international tax game has changed a lot even over the last 15 years or so. It wasn’t so long ago that a good tax planner for the right company could get away with murder. Now, at least in the big public company space, the game is more often about trying to not get hit by double taxes or other excessive

Tax attorney here: a lot of that stuff you are talking about has actually been shut down, or would never have survived audit.

You don’t need to be a Mercedes mechanic- just know something about wrenching. Worst case scenario it’s time for an LS swap.

That and a lot of those mega verdicts are reduced on appeal. The lawyer can win a “5 million dollar verdict” and brag about it, but the fact that the plaintiff actually received a much smaller amount may only be hidden in the fine print.

I used to work for a personal injury firm. Not a single case I worked on would I have accepted the injury in question for the amount of money the plaintiff got. The only person I know who got enough to be set for life was a seriously broken person who will be in pain 24/7 for the rest of his life.

Most people who are in shape enough to go out skiing aren’t going to go into cardiac arrest over some cold water being sprayed on them. Sounds like nobody suffered worse than mild hypothermia.

I think it’s hard to justify Cars and Bids if you have something really valuable. Your air cooled Porsche is much better off on BAT. But if you are selling a 20 year old AMG Mercedes worth under $10k, your car probably wouldn’t be accepted on BAT, and Cars and Bids is probably a better option than Craigslist/Facebook.

Well, the dollar bill does say it’s legal tender for all debts public AND private.

Depend on what you mean by “low risk.” Only bonds paying more than 3% after tax are junk bonds. Stocks are more risky.

I helped a buddy unload a 2 post that was delivered with a lift gate (Gregg Smith Equipment). Prices have gone up a lot recently on full size lifts due to the supply chain apocalypse. It used to be you could get a two post for $2,500 delivered vs $1,500 for a full price QuickJack.

If you are lucky enough to have decent residential concrete, you can often get liftgate service on a 2 post. Once it’s off the truck, you can bring it in piece by piece with dollies. No forklift necessary.

There are actually specific lift products for low ceiling (residential height) garages. There’s the Danmar MaxJax and Bendpak also makes an overhead lift that clears 8 foot ceilings. Obviously, you can’t walk under the car upright, but it will get a sports car high enough that you can sit on a rolling stool and work-

We did buy a lot of VW Bugs though, which were a Nazi design.

One problem with the quick jack is that the price gets pretty close to one of the cheaper full-fat lifts. If you have room for a lift, that’s obviously the preferable option.

There was a time when we trusted the Nazis. That didn’t go too well.

Batteries don’t care how cold it is outside. They care what temperature the actual pack is. This sled (and many of the newer EV cars) conditions the battery to ideal operating temp. Heating up the battery uses a small amount of power on a cold day, but a lot less than one loses from operating below its ideal temp.

That’s not how electric range works. An electric motor is rarely supplying full power. A 400kw motor still uses 10kw if it’s only asked to supply 10kw. A 45kw motor also uses 10kw if asked to supply 10kw. There’s very minimal efficiency advantage from using smaller motors.

MPGs are a downside, but I would point out that the Ascent is a true 3 row, while the Highlander is more of a 2 row with an emergency jump seat. As a 6 foot person, I would have no problem sitting in the third row of our Ascent for a short trip in-town. I’d be in the fetal position in a Highlander.
