I always bring back beer, but use socks as padding. A 12 ouncer fits perfectly in a sock, larger bottles I use a sock to pad the bottle cap. Wrapped in tshirts, never had a breakage yet *knock on wood*.

A lot of brewers are prickly as hell. Any criticism, regardless of how constructive or “true”, doesn’t sit well with them. When my local pub’s beer tastes off, I just talk about it with the staff. If they agree, they’ll escalate it to the brewer. I don’t consider myself an expert, just a repeat customer.

Whenever I hit a speed bump in a conversation, I ask a hypothetical question, most often food related. It usually gets interesting results, even from anxious introverts. Just remember that there are no wrong answers. Even if the only food that person could eat every day for a year on a desert island is Rice-a-Roni. 

My usual go-to option is to blow that cash on crap at the airport gift shop. Fridge magnet, shot glass, postcard, whatever. Or a snack and a magazine for the plane ride.

Totally+1 on the bidet. My girlfriend and friends are sick to death of hearing me proselytizing about it, but if loving to have a clean ass hole is wrong, then I don’t wanna be right.
