I saw the Room when it first came out in 2003 at a free screening in San Francisco where Tommy Wiseau was skulking around the back of the theater in tux. There were maybe 20 of us total in the audience- most of whom who had been told by a friend from LA to come watch the shitckstorm.

@Jeremy R.: At least we still have masturbation in the dystopian future!

@dicksson: Thank you for saving me having to type that out myself.

@Snafu77: Nuts... don't they move up a bridge when they change levels and get to commit to L. Ron on a boat and wow I've been reading way too much about Scientology on cracked.com.

Leaving behind the confusion over framing this post regarding a depression versus The Depression, I really enjoyed the story.

Dear Japan,

@corpore-metal: Because the idea that you have one single unique special soulmate is very appealing to folks who want to feel unique and special and chosen.

@HackBerry: Did you see the original in the theater or on DVD? (I ask because of the big subtitles translation scandal.) The film release was definitely more nuanced but I can still see where it's not as good as on the page.
