When it comes to free or no-name USB drives, I don't trust them with anything even slightly important. I've had data simply disappear from cheap flash media in the past, so now I stick with actual brand names like Patriot, Sandisk, or Corsair, etc. The cheap flash media that dropped my data was a PNY brand. I know this turned out to be kind of a weird list (with some non-traditional items), but these really are things we believe in—it's crazy how much of a difference certain things can make.

I prefer the simpler icons/UI style too because I have a conviction, perhaps insane, that that style uses less CPU/GPU and therefore less battery. I feel that way about all computerish type things now. That's part of why I actually like Windows 8 (full disclosure, I'm normally an OSX user).
