Tough, but fair.
Tough, but fair.
You hit the good points, but left out the shitty build quality, ferrari-priced hourly service rates (which isn’t easily accessible), difficulty in parts sourcing (even in pre-pandemic times), priced-like-a-porsche-but depreciates worse than one (again, non-pandemic times).
I want to like Lotus. I do. my friend had a used one he got for $42k ( i forget the model maybe elise). it was a fun drive, but new it was like a $75k car. at the time it was porsche money.
Eh - I’m not passionate about it. But if it keeps Lotus around and we get a few new sports cars (I also can’t afford) out of the deal, it’s worth it.
Finally an SUV for me!!!

Coupes have *two* doors. Two shall be the number of the counting, and the number of the counting shall be…*two.*
If you think you need an SUV, you need a minivan.
I think you are right. Maybe its not the “best” deal in the world, but I don’t think it is a bad deal if you can get a car for sticker and sell your current car for an arguably inflated price.
Excellent comment. Sure you always want to make the most rational financial choice but you also needs to enjoy life and if driving a car that you like and can afford makes you smile every time you get into it, then why not ?
If you have a car to sell or trade in, many times you can break even or come out ahead if you’re patient and open to buying something that maybe isn’t in as much demand...
You’re sixteen and you have $20 grand to spend on a car??? Ok kid, this is the voice of reason and experience - and 35 years your senior. Take $10 grand and bury it in a GIC, mutual fund, or some other long-term and low risk investment. Seriously. Invest it and forget it. If you don’t play with it and let it compound…
Sure but “Sporty” and “Reliable” are the same attributes as the grandfather on his third pacemaker.

You mention the Tesla was rented, but also call this a hit and run. It sounds more like a hit and found, which is never really mentioned here. Knowing the Tesla’s identity seems it would resolve any insurance issues. My car had similar damage (wheels bent up under the car from the curb) by a true hit and run that was…
Comprehensive or liability, doesn’t matter.. the rental company is the one on the hook for the damage (which will be passed on to the driver when they’re identified).
I feel like it would not be hard for unscrupulous salesmen (if such exist, of course) to game this thing.
Nice thread from a lawyer scolding Choi for legal d-baggery:
