I've heard people say they suspect he finished telling the political intrigue story he was most interested in telling with the red wedding, and was just sort of…saddled with wrapping up all the fantastical…

I wonder if he's subconsciously no longer compelled to finish the thing knowing that the tv show will conclude the story he had planned without him having to bother completing it himself
