I know I'm late to the party here, but yes to what you said. I love that movie and recommend it to everyone I talk movies with. It's like "do you like mystery, suspense, sci-fi, girl-on-girl? Yes to any or all of the above? Have I got a movie for you!"

The actor that played the doctor did a lot with how little she was on screen, yeah. Writing constant conflict is a rule for good drama, but when it has no easy resolutions and there are no clear good guys or bad guys and few-to-no right or wrong decisions, then it becomes great drama.
