Well stated. It boggles the mind, doesn't it? My wife lived in fear of her engine stalling and losing steering boost and brakes until I showed her what a non-issue it is if you don't panic. Sure the steering effort goes up, but there's enough vacuum left for a few brake applications then you have to muscle it.
